A Day in the Life of..
This is where us bloggers & fans get a glimpse inside the days of our favorite authors!
--------------------------------------------
Donna Fletcher is a USA Today bestselling author. It was her love of reading that started it all. Her mother fed her passion by signing her up for a Young Adult book club, and from then on she was never without a book. Whether in a car, on a bus, train or plane or simply standing on line, she read.
Her interests grew and varied through the years and though she expanded her reading horizons, romance books continued to remain her favorite. Her passion for reading naturally led her to try her hand at writing, but not before she studied every book on writing the library stocked.
Donna started writing short stories and placed second in a magazine contest, which encouraged her to continue. Characters began invading her dreams and thoughts and she realized that the depths of their stories required whole books.
She was lucky enough to meet a great group of women at New Jersey Romance Writers, joined a critique group and in the years that followed held various positions on the board. The year she became President of the organization she sold her first book San Francisco Surrender. She’s also a past President of Novelists, Inc.
Her interests vary widely and you can always find Donna taking a course or attending lectures on the most unordinary or extraordinary subjects, getting a certificate as a paranormal investigator being one of them.
On quieter days or in her spare time (is there such a thing?) you can find her walking along the beach, collecting stones and shells, working on whatever project strikes her fancy or naturally... reading a book.
Donna lives in New Jersey with her calico named Cleo, short for Cleopatra, not by any means a misnomer since she acts and expects to be treated like a Queen.
A Day in the Life Donna Fletcher
8:00 am
And then it happens, a mighty Highlander warrior steps through the fog to introduce himself. One look at my PJs brings a smirk to his face, but I warn him that I hold his life in my hands. One word I don’t like and he’s deleted. Oh the power of the computer. His smirk is replaced by a wickedly handsome smile and I know I’m lost. I want to hear his story. And so begins my day.
10:00 am
After two hours of steady writing—it’s break time—though the Highlander doesn’t agree with me. While I brew another cup of tea and find something healthy to snack on (do Doritos count?) my Highlander decides to introduce me to his nemesis. Now I have two gorgeous, muscled-men wearing kilts in my kitchen and me still in my PJs and they’re arguing. The nemesis is already telling me about the woman he loves, which of course stabs at my heart and I must take notes. While my tea brews and my English muffin cooks (decide much to my disappointment that Doritos isn’t breakfast food) I hurry and dress, the two Highlanders waiting impatiently outside my bathroom door.10:30 am
Time to post on some social sites and work on upcoming blogs which is nearly impossible since my two Highlanders have begun to argue. It seems that nemesis is in love with the Highlander’s sister and that’s not working for the big guy. My mind goes wild with possibilities and I quickly switch back to my writing. My Highlanders hang over my shoulder helping me with every word and letting me know when they don’t like something I wrote.11:30 am
Normally, I would continue to write since most of my days are consumed with writing, but once a week I have lunch with a writer friend and that’s today. I hurry and get ready, looking forward to getting out and talking with a real live person.Noon
At a restaurant with a great view of the ocean, since it’s a rainy day no one is on the beach but the rough rolling waves are—in their own way—soothing. My friend and I are soon involved in a deep conversation about our perspective projects when of course my Highlander interferes. What is he doing? Complaining about how too independent the heroine is in his book and I smile since he hasn’t seen anything yet.2:30 pm
3:30 pm
I’m back at my computer and the room could explode around me and it wouldn’t matter. I’m deep in my writing. I’m happy and so is my Highlander since he’s getting to kiss the heroine, though he does remind me that he’d like to be doing a lot more than just kissing.6:00 pm
My computer beeps reminding me that tonight I have a dinner date with my son and seven year old grandson (other times it’s supper with my six year old granddaughter). My Highlander isn’t happy but I am. I get to spend time with two more handsome guys. I also check my calendar for upcoming dates because if I don’t I’ll just keep writing and forget my book club dates, Tai Chi lessons, or whatever class I’m presently taking (right now it’s the properties of herbs) or a day of shopping and lunch with my twin sister. 8:00 pm
What I do by this time of night depends upon my day. If I’ve accomplished a lot of writing I may choose to do any number of things that I enjoy or simply watch TV or read. But if my lurking Highlanders pester me enough (which is usually the case) I’m right back to my writing and then... I could be writing until two or three in the morning.Bedtime
The time I go to bed varies and you would think that my Highlanders would leave me alone. But there are so many of them with stories to tell and there are other new projects dancing around in my head, that inevitable I pick up the notebook and pen beside my bed (yes, there are times I still write with pen and paper) and start jotting down notes. I eventually fall asleep eager to greet another day and another Highlander.------------------
A Warrior’s Promise
It has been prophesied that four men, raised as brothers, will bring Scotland back to glory. The third one will first endure a lesson in humility—and passion.
Charlotte is as brave as any Highland warrior, but she can't rescue her father alone. Her sweet face could convince any man to come to her aid, but fate has a funny way of complicating things. For when she is lucky enough to land at the feet of the mighty Bryce MacAlpin, Charlotte is in disguise . . . as Charles.
Bryce can afford no distractions on his vital quest to restore Scotland's true king to the throne. It is madness to instead give his help to this desperate urchin— especially after Charlotte's secret comes to light! Now, caught between a growing passion and his dedication to the king, will Bryce turn away from love in order to fulfill his quest? Or will he discover that promising your heart is the bravest mission of all?
