Synopsis:

In a ruined and toxic landscape, a community exists in a giant silo underground, hundreds of stories deep. There, men and women live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them.

Sheriff Holston, who has unwaveringly upheld the silo’s rules for years, unexpectedly breaks the greatest taboo of all: He asks to go outside. His fateful decision unleashes a drastic series of events. An unlikely candidate is appointed to replace him: Juliette, a mechanic with no training in law, whose special knack is fixing machines.

Now Juliette is about to be entrusted with fixing her silo, and she will soon learn just how badly her world is broken. The silo is about to confront what its history has only hinted about and its inhabitants have never dared to whisper - Uprising.

Life seemed to simple for the people living in the silo.   You worked, you lived, you died.. and some cleaned.  Rules and laws kept them all safe and those who needed punishment – cleaned.   Things aren’t always what they seem on the surface.

When a young woman starts to question and dig into the past, about the uprisings that occurred generations ago; she discovers things she can’t explain.  The more she digs, the more she questions and slowly she drives herself to the point of no return – and the newest cleaner.

Sherriff Holston is devastated at the loss of his wife and can’t stop thinking about the things she talked about up until her death.  What did she find?  So many questions unanswered in Sherriff’s opinion and he beings to dig.

This story had so many twists and turns!  It kept me glued from the moment I picked it up until the very last page.  The characters were amazing, especially Juliette!  Who takes over from Holston and isn’t at all the typical law enforcement officer.

I don’t want to get into too much detail as there is so much going on in this book that even the slightest detail might spoil something for someone.

Would I recommend this book?  Most definitely!  When I initially read the synopsis on this book it reminded me of “Across the Universe” – which I adored.  A group of people locked in a place they can’t escape and only told snippets of truth to keep them in line.  But this was so much more.. Would I read more by this author?  Yes! I’ve already picked up the next part in this series to read!
